The county of Derbyshire is located in the East Midlands and it incorporates a substantial portion of the Peak District, which means that there is a vast array of walks and many of these are suitable for people of all abilities.
Some of the most popular walks in this area take in Mam Tor, Kinder Scout and Ladybower Reservoir. Mam Tor is a popular hill and walking area which offers a specular view. Ladybower reservoir offers walks and hikes around a waterway. As well as the wealth of walks in this area there is also a wide range of things to see and do.
There is a range of things to see and do in Derbyshire even when it is raining. These visitor attractions include Treak cliff cavern, Matlock bath aquarium and chatsworth house and farmyard.
Speedwell Cavern offers an incredible boat journey underground which takes you into the inner world of the cave system underground at the heart of the national park of the Peak District. This attraction is located at the foot of the Winnats Pass which is high above the village of Castleton. This attraction also features a shop where you can purchase a range of mementos and gifts which includes jewellery that are made from a spectacular fluorspar mineral called Blue John stone and this is unique to the Peak District.
Matlock Bath aquarium and exhibits are a great attraction when the weather is not so good and this attraction offers some breath taking scenery. This facility is home to one of the biggest collections of holograms that is open to the public. The thermal pool at this aquarium is well known for its collection of carp.
Couples taking a holiday in Derbyshire will not be disappointed as there is a vast amount of things to see and do.
For couples who are interested in trains Peak rail is well worth a visit as this attraction will take you back in time to a bygone age and offers you the opportunity to experience the thrill of diesel and steam trains. This railway has been reinstated by volunteers and the trains from here operate a distance of four miles.
For adrenaline junkies a trip to Alton Towers would be worth taking the time to do, as it is sure to get the adrenaline pumping and in between the exciting ride you could hold hands and have a stroll around the park.
For couples who enjoy wine there is a couple of vineyards in the area and one of these is at Renishaw Hall. Once you have enjoyed one of the wine tours you could always purchase a bottle of your favourite or enjoy a glass with a meal in the café.
It is possible to still have a great deal of fun in Derbyshire even when on a budget. As well as the vast choice of walks around the areas there is an array of other activities that you can do, which includes museums, art galleries and gardens.
Derby museum and art gallery is a good way to introduce the family to a bit of culture and this venue will take you on a trip through history. The collections at this venue includes a collection from paintings by Joseph Wright and the soldier’s story exhibition which includes a range of weaponry so there is something to suit all tastes and ages. This venue also has a gallery of archaeology perhaps for the people with an inner Indiana Jones.
Alvaston Park is a lovely riverside park which has eighty five acres of ground and it is only two miles from the city centre. This park provides the ideal location for people who want to relax and have a leisurely stroll and enjoy feeding the ducks on the historical lake. The lake is good for fishing, the science garden is worth exploring and you could hire a bike locally and explore the park on bicycle.
There is a wide range of tourist attractions in Derbyshire that are family friendly and offer something for all ages.
Gullivers Kingdom is a family friendly theme park and it is probably one of the most popular family attractions in this area. This facility is great for people of all ages and it offers a vast array of attractions and rides which includes pirates play area, drop tower and log flumes. This park offers a great day out that is value for money.
Chatsworth farmyard and playground in Bakewell will be a hit amongst children as they can discover the working farmyard and handle animals and enjoy watching milking demonstrations. There is also a woodland playground that you can explore complete with sand and water play, slides, trampolines and rope park.
Crich tramway village offers a great day out and you can enjoy rides on the trams or explore the specular location with the breath-taking views and sculpture trails
