Bonfire Night – Places To Visit In A Motorhome

Motorhomes aren’t just for using in the summer, and having your own mobile accommodation helps you explore the best the UK has to offer this bonfire night. So pack the warm clothes, get your sparklers ready and head off to one of these amazing bonfire night events throughout the UK.

Alexandra Palace, North London

One of the capital’s biggest and best fireworks and bonfire displays, the fireworks at Alexandra Palace attract a crowd from across London. In addition to the normal firework and bonfire attractions, you can expect to find a funfair aimed at families, a mini beer festival and lots of different street food offerings. Check out the campsite at Lee Valley, just 4 miles away from Alexandra Palace, and use the bus and tube network to travel from there into the festival, which for 2016 runs on 4th and 5th November. Large numbers of visitors are expected, so book your tickets in advance and get there in plenty of time to make the most of the entertainment and fun atmosphere.

York

Guy Fawkes, who we remember on 5th November because of his attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament was born and raised in York, so it’s no surprise that the city goes all out with its bonfire and fireworks celebrations. This year, the main event is at the York Maze, where alongside York’s largest bonfire, there will be live music, fireworks, food and sideshows. Buy your tickets for the event in advance and reserve a space at one of the many campsites in the York area as whatever the time of year, York is a popular tourist destination and is always busy. While you’re in the area, get further into the spooky time of year by booking onto one of the many ghost walking tours which leave from the Minster and take you on a journey through the more unusual aspects of the city’s past.

Plymouth

Plymouth Hoe is the location for the city’s bonfire night celebrations, and the bonfire and fireworks always attracts huge crowds. There will be fairground rides and food stalls along with the traditional bonfire and firework fun, and there are many campsites in and around Plymouth where you can park the motorhome for a few nights. Take the opportunity to explore some of Devon or Cornwall while you’re in the area, as the pretty villages of Salcombe, Looe and Brixham are just a short distance away.

Hopetoun House, Edinburgh

Hopetoun House is a few miles out of Edinburgh on the banks of the Forth, and gets into the bonfire spirit a bit early with a huge fireworks display on the 29th October. The fireworks display will be set to music, and in addition there will be a bonfire and lots of food stalls. There are several campsites close by, or take the short hop across the Forth Road Bridge into Fife to explore the pretty fishing villages or St Andrews, famous for its University and golf courses.
