Motorhome Uprising Tackles Local Councils Over Car Parks

A motorhome campaigner has started a new initiative encouraging motorhome owners to lobby local councils about their parking restrictions.

Project Get Involved is run by Andy Strangeway, who says some council-run local car parks may be operating illegally. Council operated public car parks are currently legislated through an Off Street Parking Order, which clearly sets out terms and conditions of usage.

Motorhome campaigner, Mr Strangeway states that anything that is not covered within the Off Street Parking Order cannot be legally excluded from the car park. A typical example of this is a car park that has signage clearly stating that it is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but has been fitted with a locked barrier for use at night.

Height Restriction Prevents Motorhomes From Entering

Mr Strangeway says the Off Street Parking Order does not expressly provide a height restriction clause within it and any car park that erects a height barrier is acting illegally. The height barrier effectively prevents motorhomes from parking within that car park.

Motorhome Campaigner Support

The Get Involved Project estimates that there could be hundreds of car parks across the UK with illegal restrictions on them. If you are interested in supporting the campaign, Mr Strangeway suggests that you email the local authority where you have identified a car park barrier.
