Taking Your Motorhome To The Euros 2016!
Excitement is already building for the Euro 2016 football tournament hosted by France.
The tournament, which starts on 10 June and runs to 10 July will see matches being played throughout the country. England are set to play Wales in the first round and the Republic of Ireland will be playing Italy and Belgium while Northern Ireland are gearing up to face Germany and Poland.
If you want to get a slice of the Euros action then a trip to France in your motorhome could be just the ticket. Travelling to France in your motorhome is a relatively simple thing to do, so long as you are prepared. We’ve put together a few top tips for taking your motorhome across the channel.
Driving in France is not the same as driving in the UK. First off, the drive through most parts of France is an absolute joy; there are miles of untouched green countryside dotted with the odd chateaux or winery; huge stretches of coastlines and exciting and bustling cites to explore.
So that you may enjoy these parts of your motorhome trip to France, it’s important to get the boring but necessary legal stuff out of the way first. You will need to ensure you take your passport with you as well as your driving licence. Other documents to take include your insurance documents and your V5 as your proof of ownership. In France, you are also expected to carry the following pieces of equipment with you: headlamp converters, warning triangle, spare bulbs, hi viz vest; GB sticker and breathalysers.
Taking the ferry with your motorhome need not be daunting; the most important thing to do is ensure you are aware of all the correct dimensions of your motorhome. Measuring the overall length of your vehicle also means including the full length when you have attached any tow bars or bike racks you may be taking with you. It is imperative to do this as you could be charged extra if you don’t specify the correct size at the time of booking. Sometimes ferry companies can also ask for the overall height of your motorhome.
If you have a trailer then you will need to inform the ferry company of your total combination length. Also, if the trailer is higher than your motorhome, you will need to provide this information too as it will be counted as your ‘overall height’. It is so exciting Taking Your Motorhome To The Euros 2016!
There are a number of different campsites which accept motorhomes spread across the country. Some of the places where the Euros will be played include: St Denis; Paris; Toulouse; Marseille and Bordeaux. If you are looking for somewhere to camp with your motorhome then now is the time to start looking.
Camping du Garlaban is located in the hills in Marseille and set in 7.5 acres of trees. It is a site with 66 pitches available, many of which have an electrical connection and water connections. There are heated facilities and a camper van service area. Pets are allowed and there are golf, tennis, boules and swimming activities close to the site. There are hot showers and washing machines, as well as a restaurant and entertainment on site making Taking Your Motorhome To The Euros 2016 a lot easier.
If you are looking for somewhere near Toulouse then you could try Camping the Mercer. This is a quiet, family site with a heated swimming pool in the summer months and shaded pitches.
Le Village du Lac is in Bordeaux. It has spacious and level pitches for motorhomes along with 10 amp electrical hook-ups and you will need to take with you an extension lead and a blue plug. There are buses and trams which leave just outside the campsite to the city centre and operate throughout the whole week.
