Newquay is a seaside town on the northern coast of Cornwall in the Southwest of England. This area is well known for its sandy beaches and the strong waves created by the Atlantic Ocean. There is a good selection of shopping centres, attractions and walks within this area, which makes it the ideal location for people of all ages. Things To Do In Newquay When It’s Raining

There is a lot of fun things to see and do even when it is raining in Newquay.

Blue Reef Aquarium

One of the attractions that is worth visiting is Blue Reef Aquarium, which is home to forty habitats that are naturally themed. A visit to this attraction will take you on a journey from the Cornish coast into the exotic seas. You will also have opportunity to come face to face with caiman and freshwater turtles. There are underwater tunnels which run throughout the ocean tank at the centre of the aquarium and this provides captivating views of the reef and the sea where it lives including reef sharks, colourful fish, and loggerhead sea turtles.

National Maritime Museum

A trip to the National Maritime museum will also be a great way to spend a day when it is raining as there is a vast array of collections to view. This museum is home to fifteen galleries spread across five floors and it explores the influence that the sea has had on the culture and history of the local area. This museum is housed in Discovery Quay, which is a large and iconic building, which was custom built on the ground that was once occupied by boat builder sheds.

There is a lot of things that couples can enjoy seeing and doing when in Newquay. There is number of walks in the area and also historical attractions.

Fistral Beach

There are also several beaches that are worth visiting and one of these is Fistral Beach which is one of the many splendid sandy beaches that is great for people who enjoy water sports such as body boarding and surfing. This lovely sandy beach is the ideal location to relax and unwind whilst listening to the waves and feeling the sand between your toes.

Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre

Another fun day out for couples would be a trip to Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre, where you can enjoy a stroll through the hardened aircraft shelter and experience sitting inside a Hawker harrier jet. There is a collection of other classic aircraft at this attraction. There is also a 1950’s American style cafe where you can enjoy some tasty food and refreshments however if you would rather have a picnic there are plenty suitable areas outside.

Places To Visit In Newquay For Free

If you are looking to save some pennies whilst you are having a holiday in Newquay don’t worry as there are still plenty of fun things that you can see and do. Newquay is home to many lovely sandy beaches and they are easy to get to. These beaches are the perfect place to relax and unwind or test your sandcastle building skills.

St Mawgan Church

For the historians a visit to St Mawgan church will not disappoint as it has some magnificent architecture. The stained-glass windows are lovely, and the original pew ends despite the seating being replaced which really adds to the character of the building.

Kernow Chocolate

Another attraction that will be popular with people of all ages is Kernow Chocolate, as this is a perfect attraction for anyone who likes chocolate. At this attraction you can sit, sip and watch the skill that goes into making chocolate. There is even a tasting table where you can try the chocolate for free. Every single gram of Kernow chocolate is handmade. After you have seen the skill that is needed to make the chocolate you can then visit the shop and purchase some to take home and there is also a café serving tasty food and refreshments.

Pirate’s Quest

Pirate’s Quest will be a great day out for people of all ages as you immerse yourself in the walk through experience which combines amazing special effects and talented theatrical actors which create an atmospheric and authentic adventure. There is a live pirate guide which will guide you through the realistic scenes and take you on a voyage through the history of pirates. This voyage will take you back to the 1700’s and you can learn about the real pirates from the Caribbean. This attraction will keep visitors of all ages entertained for hours as there are simple so many different experiences to enjoy and explore.

Newquay Zoo

Newquay Zoo is another attraction that will provide an interesting day out. This zoo was first opened in 1969 when it was run by the council up until it became privately owned in 1994 and since 2003 it has been owned by Wild Planet Trust. Over the years this zoo has become a premier attraction for visitors. This zoo is home to more than one hundred and thirty species which means that there is a lot for visitors to see and do.
