Plymouth is an historic city known to many as the ‘Ocean City’. It is located at the westerly bottom tip of the south east coast of Devon.

Plymouth is steeped in history and is perhaps best known for being the place where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail from for the New World in the 1600s in the Mayflower ship. Its later history is a commercial shipping port as it became known for exporting local minerals.

Things To Do In Plymouth

Plymouth sits on the waterfront of the river Sound and is also surrounded by miles of beautiful countryside.

There are lots of fun things to do in and around Plymouth. From a day at the shops, visiting historical places, ferry trips and foot taxis on the rivers that flow into the Sound.

Mount Batten Watersports Centre is a popular destination where visitors can experience outdoor water activities like sailing and kayaking.

The National Marine Aquarium allows visitors to view marine life in its deepwater fish tanks that can be found in the Plymouth shorelines.

Dartmoor Zoological Park is home to big cats, wolves, falconry displays and its beginnings form an interesting story of a family who ‘saved’ the zoo from being closed down and built it up again into a charity.

Royal William Yard is a military building which with an interesting history that has become a destination of choice for outdoor theatre enthusiasts, crafts markets and art lovers. And there is also Blackfriar’s Gin Distillery, a popular attraction where visitors can sample one of Plymouth’s well known exports.

Smeaton Tower Lighthouse is fun to climb up or, for a rainy day, you can take the kids to Barbian Leisure Park where there is a multiplex cinema and ten pin bowling.

Plymouth Sound Caravan Club Site

Bovisand Lane, Down Thomas, Plymouth, PL9 0AE

On this site there are electric hook ups, gas refills and chemical disposals. Pets are welcome on this site and close by, you can find shops and bars. The beach, boating activities and golfing are located around five miles away. It is set in 6 acres of land with 60 pitches in total.

The site is positioned just outside of Plymouth and is close to the South West Coastal Footpath for beautiful views and scenery. Also close by is a local ice rink, Plymouth Pavilions and the National Marine Aquarium, so there is plenty to do for all the family.

Riverside Caravan Park

Leigham Manor Drive, Marsh Mills, Plymouth, PL6 8LL

This site, which is open all year round, features lots of different facilities including, electricity hook ups, gas refills, showers, toilets, a laundry, a TV and games room, outdoor kids laying area a bar and restaurant and swimming pool. The beach is five miles away with horse riding and boating activities also available.

The site is positioned in a country park which is a just three miles from the centre of Plymouth. It is surrounded by woodlands and next to the river Plym.

Pennymoor Camping and Caravan Park

Modbury, Ivybridge, Devon

The facilities on this site include motorhome service points, free hot water, electric hook ups, gas refills, hard standing pitches, laundry services, outdoor playing area, disabled facilities, shops and internet access. There is a shop on site, a children’s play area and internet access.

Pennymoor is a 12.5 acre site with panoramic views over Dartmoor and Devonshire. Within five miles there are restaurants, beaches, boating activities and golf. 10 miles from the site there is fishing and ferry links. Modbury and Kingsbridge Estuary are the nearest towns to the site.
