Used motorhome sales soar to record levels

Travelworld’s Elevation X Approved Used Program has caused second-hand vehicle sales to rocket by more than a third.

Erwin Hymer Centre Travelworld, in Stafford, recorded 37.5% more sales in used vehicles between July 2022 to March 2023 compared with the same period in 2021-22.

Travelworld launched its new Approved Used programme, Elevation X, in July in response to soaring demand in the market.

Elevation X offers buyers a 10-point promise covering preparation, presentation and aftersales support.

Ross Edwards, Managing Director at Travelworld, said the uptick in second-hand sales could be attributed to a number of factors, including Elevation X, supply chain pressures limiting the availability of new vehicles and unprecedented interest in motorhoming.

“The second-hand motorhome and camper van market is as buoyant as I’ve seen it,” said Ross. “We have seen a huge increase in interest in used vehicles since the launch of Elevation X and that has led to record-breaking sales.

“As well as our enhanced offering, the increase is also partly down to the much-publicised supply chain issues which have reduced the number of new motorhomes on the market, brought about by a stinging combination of Covid and Brexit.

“Though the problems are easing and we have maintained good stock levels throughout, it has made the second-hand market a more attractive option for many.

“It is also true that motorhoming has continued to grow in popularity since the pandemic as people look for new ways to enjoy travel, whether that’s in the UK or abroad.”

Recently people have been able to secure better-than-usual prices for their used vehicles when either selling them privately, or back to a dealership such as Travelworld.

Ross said: “Used car prices grew for the 35th month in a row in February and, unsurprisingly, second motorhomes have followed in a similar vein.

“This is great news for people who have a motorhome to sell. We will consider buying any brand of motorhome which is in great condition and no more than five years old.”

Every used vehicle available to buy at Travelworld has been thoroughly inspected from chassis to habitation and is protected by a minimum six month Back to Base parts and labour warranty.
